Slayer

A skill that levels by killing. The console gives you a task to kill a number of one mob. Only natural spawns count. Titles and hiscores, no power.

Slayer is the fifth skill. It levels from 1 to 99 like the others. Like them it is cosmetic only: a level never gives items, damage or protection. It gives titles and a place on the hiscores.

Tasks

/slayer shows your task. If you have none, the console gives you one: kill a number of one kind of mob, such as 30 zombies. Kill them anywhere, in any order. Progress shows in chat every 10 kills.

  • A new task never repeats the last kind when another fits.
  • The number depends on the mob. Common mobs are 15 to 80. Rare, dangerous ones are a handful.
  • When the task is done, you get a bonus, and /slayer gives the next.
  • /slayer skip drops your task and gives a new one. You can skip once every 6 hours. A skip sets your streak to 0.

What counts

Only mobs the world spawned count. A kill does not count if the mob came from:

  • a spawner or a spawn egg
  • breeding
  • a command
  • a build, such as a snow golem or an iron golem
  • a conversion, such as a zombie that drowned or a villager that was infected

Mobs from trial chambers, raids, patrols and jockeys do count, and so do slimes and magma cubes split from a mob that counted. The Wither counts when it is built. The ender dragon and the warden count as they spawn.

Spawner farms count for nothing.

You must do the work

You must deal at least half of the mob's health yourself. That means melee, your own arrows and tridents, lingering potions you threw, TNT you lit in the last 5 seconds and crystals you hit. A mob that burns to death after your hit still counts if you hit it in the last 8 seconds. Fall damage, lava, other fire, drowning, the void, cramming, other mobs and thorns are not your damage. If the mob's last hit was not yours, the kill pays nothing.

Kills only count while you are really playing: you must have moved yourself in the last few minutes. Standing at a farm's kill spot pays nothing. Fast killing pays less: past 40 task kills in 10 minutes a kill pays half XP, past 80 it pays nothing, and at most 240 count in an hour.

XP

XP
Each kill 3 for each point of the mob's health, at least 10
Finished task Half of the task's kill XP again
Every 10th task in a row Twice the task's kill XP again

Your streak is the number of tasks in a row. It goes back to 0 when you skip.

Harder mobs by level

The pool of mobs grows with your Slayer level. A level only adds kinds. It never removes the easy ones.

Level Adds
1 Zombies, skeletons, spiders, creepers, drowned
20 Endermen, witches, slimes, cave spiders, phantoms
40 Blazes, wither skeletons, ghasts, magma cubes, hoglins, piglin brutes
60 Shulkers, endermen in the End
75 Guardians, evokers, vindicators, ravagers, breezes
85 The Wither, the ender dragon
90 Elder guardians, the warden

Boss tasks are short. A Wither or a dragon task is one kill.
