Labyrinth
A common zone where stone walls three blocks high cut the land into a maze with no centre.
Labyrinth is a zone type in the Overworld. Stone walls stand on the land and cut it into a maze that covers the whole zone.
What it looks like
- The walls are three blocks high and stand on a grid of squares 5 to 7 blocks wide. They follow the land up and down hills.
- Gaps in the walls make doorways. Some squares have no way in. In places the walls stop and leave an open court with lone posts.
- The maze has no centre and no marked way through. Every part looks like every other part.
- Grass, flowers and trees grow inside it as on any land. Some trees grow over the walls.
- The maze stops at the shore. It does not cross water.
- A few corners have a pale light on top of the wall. The rest is dark at night, and monsters spawn in the corridors as they do on open land.
The walls are only added on top of the land. No ground is dug out.
By biome
The walls are built from blocks that fit the land they stand on.
| Land | Walls |
|---|---|
| Most of the world | Stone bricks, some of them mossy |
| Deserts and warm seas | Cut sandstone |
| Badlands | Terracotta |
| Snowy land and frozen seas | Polished diorite |
| Swamps and jungles | Mud bricks |
Getting through
The walls are ordinary blocks with no protection. You can walk the corridors, dig through, climb over or fly.
How rare it is
Labyrinth is a common zone. About 3 percent of zones are Labyrinth, about one zone in 36. It exists in the Overworld only, and only in land far from anything that existed when it was added. The land around spawn never gets it, so go far.
There are no other chunk errors inside the zone.
See Chunk errors for every zone type, and Exploring for how finds are logged.
