Terraces

A common zone where the land is cut into flat steps that line up across chunks.

terraces from above: the hills cut into flat shelves

Terraces is a zone type in the Overworld. The land is cut into flat steps.

What it looks like

Every column of ground drops to the step below it. Hills turn into stacks of flat shelves with sheer edges. Each zone has one step height:

  • 6 blocks
  • 8 blocks
  • 10 blocks
  • 12 blocks

The steps sit at fixed heights. A shelf at one height runs on into the next chunk, so the terraces form long contour lines across the whole zone.

Ground is only lowered, never raised. Trees and grass grow on the shelves as normal.

How rare it is

Terraces is a common zone. About 3 percent of zones are terraces. It exists in the Overworld only.

There are no other chunk errors inside the zone.

See Chunk errors for every zone type.
