Echo

A common zone where one line of chunks repeats a slice of itself, so the land stutters with a seam at every repeat.

Echo is a zone type in the Overworld. The land is ordinary, but along one line of chunks it repeats itself.

What it looks like

  • The terrain is clean vanilla land.
  • One line of chunks runs through the middle of the zone: east to west, north to south, or on a diagonal.
  • Each chunk on the line takes the slice of itself that faces the middle of the zone, 4 or 8 blocks wide, and repeats it across the rest of the chunk. Hills, caves and rivers stutter in strips.
  • There is a seam at every repeat, where the strip ends and the same strip starts again.
  • The chunk in the middle of the zone and all the land off the line stay clean.

A repeat never copies ore or anything of value. Ore in a repeat becomes the rock around it, amethyst becomes stone, and ice becomes water or snow. The slice itself keeps what it has.

Dangers

  • A seam can be a wall or a drop, where the end of one strip meets the start of the next.
  • A cave opening in the slice is repeated too, so one hole can become a row of them.

How rare it is

Echo is a common zone, a little rarer than most: about one zone in 66. It exists in the Overworld only, and only in land generated after the 1.7.1 update. The land around spawn never gets it, so go far.

Only the chunks on the line count as the zone in your log. To find Echo, cross its line.

There are no other chunk errors inside the zone.

See Chunk errors for every zone type, and Exploring for how finds are logged.
