Shallows

A common zone where the land is planed flat under one block of still water, with a lone railway.

The Shallows is a zone type in the Overworld. Everything is flat, and everything is under one block of water.

What it looks like

  • The land is cut down or built up to one level and covered by one block of still water. It goes on to the edge of the zone.
  • The floor under the water is the local stone: pale polished diorite in most places and in snowy land, sandstone in deserts and warm seas, red sandstone in badlands, and packed mud in swamps and jungles. In cold places the water freezes over. In some zones it is dark deepslate.
  • The chunk borders show through the water as lines, so a grid runs to the horizon.
  • Most of these zones have a railway on a low causeway, running north to south, with poles beside it. The poles are spruce, mangrove in swamps, jungles and lush caves, sandstone walls in deserts, or red sandstone walls in badlands. The railway stops just short of the edge of the zone.
  • A few lamp posts, empty door frames and short stairs that lead nowhere stand in the water.

The water is still and does not flow. Monsters cannot spawn in it.

At the edge of the zone a rim holds the water in. Where the land around was higher, it stands as a cliff faced with cobblestone and polished stone.

How rare it is

The Shallows is a common zone. About 3 percent of zones are Shallows. It exists in the Overworld only.

There are no other chunk errors inside the zone.
