Chunk history
Commands that show when a chunk, sign, book or map was made, and what you have explored.
The server records when things were made. It never records who made them. These commands read that record.
/chunkinfo
/chunkinfo (alias /ci) tells you when the chunk you stand in was first generated, and which game version it was made on.
- Dates are in UTC.
- A chunk made today, yesterday or the day before only says "in the last three days". Any exact date you see is at least 48 hours old.
- Chunks older than the record say "generated before the record began".
- If the record for that area is not loaded yet, you are told to try again in a moment.
- It never shows who generated the chunk, or anything about other chunks.
/signdate
Look at a sign and type /signdate (alias /carbondate). You can also sneak and right-click a sign with both hands empty. A normal right-click still opens the sign editor.
- It shows the month the sign was placed. A sign under 30 days old says "placed in the last month".
- A second line shows the month the words were first changed, but only if that change is at least 30 days old and in a later month than the placing. Once it can show, it never changes. A sign cannot reveal that someone came back to edit it.
- Signs made before the record began say "placed before the record began".
- It never shows who placed the sign.
- You must be within 4.5 blocks.
/provenance
Hold a signed book or a filled map in your main hand and type /provenance.
- A book shows the month its text was first signed. Copies share that date.
- A map shows the month it was first drawn.
- Books and maps made before the record began, books whose text is not the original, and maps made at a cartography table, are "not in the record".
- Nothing is written into the item.
/explored
/explored shows how many brand-new chunks you put on the map, by dimension, and your rank.
- A new chunk is credited to the nearest player within view distance when it generates. Loading an old chunk never counts.
/explored <player>shows another player's total and rank. It is a snapshot that is 6 to 12 hours old./explored topshows the top 10 explorers, also from the older snapshot.- If a player has opted out, you only see "No public record".
/distance
/distance shows your own farthest distance band from spawn in each dimension, for example "100k+". It also shows your lifetime elytra and on-foot distance. Nobody else can see it.
/atlas
/atlas shows world totals:
- chunks ever generated, in all dimensions
- the count in each dimension and new chunks in the last 7 days, both from the older snapshot
- server firsts that have already been announced
The server also announces milestones:
- Server firsts. For example, "X was the first player to reach 1,000,000 blocks from spawn in the overworld." They are sent at least 6 hours after the fact, plus a random delay. They name a distance band and a dimension. They never give coordinates or a direction.
- Odometer. For example, "The world just passed 10,000,000 generated chunks." No names and no places.
Opt out
/atlas optout toggles your privacy. When you are opted out:
- server firsts name you as "Someone"
- you are hidden from
/explored top - others cannot look you up with
/explored - you still see your own numbers
Why the delays
Most numbers about other players are 6 to 12 hours old, and dates close to now are hidden. This is on purpose. A live number or a recent date would point at a person or a base. Old numbers still make a good record.
