Lampfield

A common zone where lamp posts stand in a perfect grid over wild land, lighting nothing.

Lampfield is a zone type in the Overworld. Lamp posts stand in a perfect grid over the land. There are no streets, paths or buildings. Only the lamps.

What it looks like

  • A post three blocks tall with a froglight on top stands every 12, 14 or 16 blocks, in straight rows that run north to south and east to west.
  • The grid ignores the land. Posts stand on hilltops and slopes, in forests, on beaches and in rivers.
  • In shallow water a post stands on the bottom and rises three blocks above the surface. Where the water is deeper than five blocks, there is no lamp.
  • There are no lamps close to lava.
  • At night the lamps make a lattice of points to the horizon.

The lamps are only added on top of the land. No ground is dug out under them.

By biome

Land Post Light
Most of the world Spruce fence Pale froglight
Deserts and warm seas Sandstone wall Yellow froglight
Badlands Red sandstone wall Yellow froglight
Snowy land and frozen seas Stone brick wall Pale froglight
Swamps and jungles Mangrove fence Green froglight

Using them

The posts are ordinary blocks with no protection. The light keeps monsters from spawning on most of the ground between the posts.

How rare it is

Lampfield is a common zone. About 3 percent of zones are Lampfield, about one zone in 36. It exists in the Overworld only, and only in land far from anything that existed when it was added. The land around spawn never gets it, so go far.

There are no other chunk errors inside the zone.

See Chunk errors for every zone type, and Exploring for how finds are logged.
