Valley of Water
A common zone of floating water cubes in geometric patterns over clean ground.
The Valley of Water is a zone type in the Overworld. It looks nothing like the other zones.
What it looks like
The ground is clean. There are no cliffs, holes or floating land. Above it, cubes of still water hang in the air in a repeating pattern.
- The cubes line up with the chunk grid.
- They float at least 7 blocks above the ground.
- Their bottoms sit between about y 80 and y 128, plus the height steps of the pattern.
- The water is still. It does not flow.
Each valley has one pattern across the whole zone. The patterns are:
- Grid
- Checker
- Diagonals
- Rings
- Stairs
- Wave
- Towers
The pattern is centred on one point in the zone. The cubes come in three sizes:
| Size | Share of valleys |
|---|---|
| Full, 16 by 16 by 16 blocks | about 60 percent |
| Half, 8 by 8 by 8 blocks | about 25 percent |
| Quad, four cubes of 6 by 6 by 6 blocks | about 15 percent |
How rare it is
Valleys of Water are about 3 or 4 percent of all zones, which makes them a common zone. Most players will still find one only after long travel. See the rarity tiers.
The valley exists in the Overworld only. The Nether and the End do not have it.
Around the cubes
The ground in a valley is clean, like a calm zone, with no other errors. The cubes are the only odd thing. They are easy to see from far away, so a valley is a good landmark.
Other water that errors lift above sea level is removed during generation. The cubes are placed after that step, so they are the only floating water in a valley.
Finding one
No map or command shows where a zone is. /zones only tells you whether you have found one. You find a valley by travelling. If you see floating water cubes in a regular pattern, you are in one.
Read Chunk errors for the other zone types and Travel for how to cover distance.
