Events

Hot chunks, crown hills and airdrops run four times a day. Rallies and calendar modes too.

The server runs hotspot events several times a day. They pull players out to a place away from spawn. Nobody is teleported. You have to get there.

Schedule

Events start at 01:00, 08:00, 14:00 and 19:00 UTC. The type for each slot is picked from a shuffled list, so every type comes up once per cycle. If fewer than 2 players are online when a slot starts, it is cancelled.

/event (alias /events) shows the next event time, with a countdown. Once it is announced, it also shows the type and region. /event shows exact coordinates from 2 minutes before the start. While one runs it shows the standings, and afterwards the last result.

How an event is announced

Time before start What is announced
10 minutes The type and a region, for example "north-east, 1,000 to 1,500 blocks from spawn"
2 minutes The exact site
0 The start

A boss bar shows the countdown and then the race.

Sites are picked in chunks nobody has built in. A site is rejected if signs, item frames, tamed animals, shulker boxes or ender chests are anywhere in the area around it. Opened chests and other containers, beds, villagers, minecarts and crafted building blocks count near the surface. Mineshafts, dungeons and other generated structures below the surface, zone walls, and chests nobody has opened do not count. Sites are chosen from chunks that already exist. An event never generates new terrain.

Hot Chunk

  • Lasts 60 minutes.
  • One chunk, 500 to 2,500 blocks from spawn.
  • Every second you stand in it alive gives you 1 second. You must be within 24 blocks of the site's height.
  • The player with the most seconds wins. You need at least 30 seconds to win.
  • Seconds are kept through death and logout, but they do not add while you are dead or offline.
  • The reward drops at the winner's feet if the winner is in the chunk at the end. Otherwise it drops in the chunk centre for anyone.
  • Players within 128 blocks see the top 3 on the action bar.

Crown Hill

  • Lasts 45 minutes at most.
  • A circle with an 8-block radius, 1,000 to 3,000 blocks from spawn, marked by a column of particles. You must be within 10 blocks of its height.
  • Exactly one player inside earns 1 second. Two or more players inside makes it contested, and nobody earns.
  • The first player to reach 300 seconds in total wins a numbered crown.
  • If nobody gets there, the crown is unclaimed.
  • If someone dies wearing a crown, the server says who. It does not say where.

Airdrop

  • A chest falls onto a site 500 to 2,000 blocks from spawn.
  • It lands as a normal chest with no protection. A particle beacon marks it for 10 minutes.
  • It can be looted, stolen or broken.

Rally

A rally is a call to your own position. It does not teleport anyone.

  1. Type /rally call <name> [minutes]. You need at least 60 minutes of playtime.
  2. The server warns you that your name and position will be shown to everyone. Position is rounded to 16 blocks, with your dimension and no Y.
  3. Type /rally confirm within 60 seconds.

A boss bar counts down from 10 to 90 minutes. The default is 15. The rally stays live for 20 minutes after the countdown. Players within 64 blocks count as attending, and attendees see the count. At the end the server prints the peak and the number of deaths.

  • /rally schedule <name> <HH:MM> sets a rally at a UTC time within 24 hours, at least 15 minutes ahead. Your spot is secret until 10 minutes before.
  • /rally list lists rallies.
  • /rally cancel cancels your own.
  • /rally mute turns rally messages and boss bars off for you, or back on.

Limits: one rally per player, 3 at a time on the server, and a 2 hour wait between your rallies.

Calendar

/calendar shows server-wide modes that are active or coming. Each mode is announced 7 days ahead, 1 day ahead, 1 hour ahead, at the start and at the end. One mode that exists is a heads mode, where every player kill drops the victim's head.

Rewards

Winners receive loot that a hot chunk or an airdrop holds. A crown hill winner gets a numbered crown and the crown hill loot. Loot is made from vanilla items. Exact contents are not listed here and can change.
