Hollow

The rarest zone. The ground is a thin crust over a vast cavern of vaults.

a cut through a hollow: the crust, the walls under it and a sinkhole. Ordinary ground on the right.

The Hollow is a zone type in the Overworld. On top it looks like any other land. Underneath, the land is gone.

What it looks like

  • The ground is a crust at least 5 blocks thick. Below it is a cavern that reaches down to a flat floor deep under the ground.
  • Under each chunk the cavern rises into a tall vault. Thin walls along the chunk borders hold the crust up. They end in arches well above the floor, so the bottom of the cavern is one open hall.
  • Pale lights are set in the underside of the crust, like stars.
  • The crust, walls, pillars and floor are the local rock. Where they face the cavern they are cobblestone, cobbled deepslate and polished stone.
  • Pillars stand at some chunk corners, with a band of light near their feet.
  • Here and there a round sinkhole opens from the surface into the dark.

The cavern is dark, and monsters spawn in it as they do in caves. In deep parts of the world the floor can be covered in sculk.

Where the zone ends, the rock is solid from the floor to the surface.

How rare it is

The Hollow is a legendary zone, the rarest of all. About 0.05 percent of zones are Hollows, about one zone in 2,000. It exists in the Overworld only.

There are no other chunk errors inside the zone.

See Chunk errors for every zone type.
