Spawn and the escape run
What spawn is, how to get out of spawn, and what the escape run tracks.
Spawn
Spawn is the area around the world centre at 0, 0. The nine chunks at the centre are clean. They are the only part of the world without chunk errors. Everything past them is broken terrain.
Spawn is where most fights, ruins and event traffic happen. New players appear within about 500 blocks of it. When you die, you respawn in the same spread.
There is no /spawn. Once you leave, you walk back.
How to get out of spawn
Spawn has no exit and no road. To get out of spawn, pick any direction and keep going.
- Bring food, a pearl and a weapon you can afford to lose.
- Leave fast. The longer you stay near spawn, the more fights find you.
- Terrain past the spawn chunks has chunk errors. Cliffs, floating chunks and voids appear without warning. Read Chunk errors.
- Flying is allowed, with the 147 blocks per second cap. See Travel.
- The Nether is faster: 250 blocks there counts as out of spawn for the escape run.
- If you die, you respawn near spawn again. Your escape run keeps going.
- You can ignore the run entirely. It is a record, not a task.
The escape run
The escape run is a record for new players. It tracks how fast you get out of spawn and how many times you die on the way.
- The run starts when you join the world for the first time. Players who have joined before do not start one.
- To finish, get 2,000 blocks away from spawn in the Overworld. In the Nether the distance is 250 blocks.
- The server counts your time online and your deaths.
- You have 10 hours online to finish.
/escape shows your status. While you are running, it shows your time online, your deaths, the distance you need and the time you have left.
/escape top shows the fastest escapes this week, the fastest of all time, and the fewest deaths.
Escapee and Lost in Spawn
- Escapee is a feat for finishing the run.
- Lost in Spawn is a feat for the opposite. It goes to a player who has spent 10 hours online and never escaped. It is on your record.
The announcements are delayed by several hours and never include a place. Your own /escape answer and a private message to you come at once. Other players see the public line later, so nobody can use it to find you.
See Feats and flair.
Spawn events and trials
Events and weekly trials mostly use spawn or a ring around it.
- Events pick sites 500 to 3,000 blocks out. Hot chunks, crown hills and airdrops.
- Weekly trials often score time spent at or near 0, 0.
If you stay near spawn, you will see these first.
