Glitch storms

At most once a day an airdrop slot becomes a glitch storm. 20 to 30 minutes of static and lightning around a falling crate.

A glitch storm is an event. For 20 to 30 minutes, the land around one spot fills with static and lightning, and a crate falls at its centre. Nobody is teleported. You have to get there.

When

  • Storms use the same four slots as the other events: 01:00, 08:00, 14:00 and 19:00 UTC.
  • At most one storm a UTC day. When a slot would be an airdrop, it becomes a glitch storm instead, if no storm is planned for that day yet.
  • If fewer than 2 players are online when the slot starts, it is cancelled, like every event.
  • /event shows the next event. See Events.

How it is announced

Time before start What is announced
10 minutes The type and a region, for example "north-east, 1,000-1,500 blocks from spawn"
2 minutes The exact coordinates
0 "the glitch storm has broken at x y z. it lasts 24 minutes. a crate fell at its centre."
The end "the glitch storm has passed."

The countdown boss bar shows the region, then the site. While a storm runs, /event shows where it is and how long is left.

The storm

  • The centre is 500 to 2,000 blocks from spawn, picked like every event site: in chunks nobody has built in, from land that already exists. A storm never generates new terrain.
  • The storm is a circle of 96 blocks around the centre, at any height.
  • When you walk in, your sky goes dark with rain, the storm's boss bar shows the time left, and you get one line: "you are inside the glitch storm. the static gets stronger toward the centre. the crate is there."
  • Pink and grey static and sparks fill the air around you. They get stronger toward the centre. A column of light marks the centre.
  • Every 20 to 60 seconds, lightning strikes near someone inside: a pink flash, a bolt and thunder.
  • Leaving the circle, dying or changing dimension ends it for you.

The lightning is only light and sound. It does no damage, starts no fire and breaks nothing. A storm never changes a block. Only players inside it see or hear it.

While the server runs below 19 TPS, the static and the lightning stop. The storm itself goes on.

The crate

  • When the storm breaks, a minecart with a chest falls from 60 blocks above the centre.
  • It holds one roll of the airdrop loot plus one roll of storm loot: about two airdrops' worth, on average. Vanilla items only. Exact contents are not listed here and can change.
  • It has no protection. Anyone can loot it, break it or push it away. It stays after the storm ends.
  • It falls once. A restart does not drop another.
