Hunter

A skill that levels by catching wild creatures. The console gives you a task: catch a number of one kind with a bucket, by taming, or with a name tag. Only wild ones count, each once. Titles and hiscores, no power.

Hunter is the sixth skill. It levels from 1 to 99 like the others. Like them it is cosmetic only: a level never gives items, damage or protection. It gives titles and a place on the hiscores.

Tasks

/hunter shows your task. If you have none, the console gives you one: catch a number of one kind of creature, such as 5 tropical fish. Catch them anywhere, in any order.

  • A new task never repeats the last kind when another fits.
  • The number depends on the kind. Common ones are a handful to 15. Rare ones are one or two.
  • When the task is done, you get a bonus, and /hunter gives the next.
  • /hunter skip drops your task and gives a new one. You can skip once every 6 hours. A skip sets your streak to 0.

What counts

A catch is one of three ways, and the task says which:

  • Bucket: put it in a bucket. Axolotls and tropical fish.
  • Tame: tame it. Wolves, cats, parrots, horses, donkeys, llamas and skeleton horses.
  • Name tag: put a name tag on it. Sheep, rabbits, foxes, frogs, goats, pandas and mooshrooms.

Only wild creatures count. They have to come from the world itself. Each creature counts once, ever. One that is bred, hatched, already named, from an egg, a command or a spawner, or let out of a bucket never counts. The skeleton horse comes from a trap.

XP

XP
Each catch More for kinds that take longer to find. Rare finds pay more.
Finished task Half of the task's catch XP again
Every 10th task in a row Twice the task's catch XP again

Your streak is the number of tasks in a row. It goes back to 0 when you skip.

Tasks by level

A kind is only given in its band. Common kinds stop in the 30s and 40s, so a high level never gets a long task of them. Level 99 is a long road.
